Alleima wins Sizewell C nuclear tubing supply order

Alleima has secured a nuclear tubing order for Sizewell C. Supplies for the two planned EPR1600 reactors are expected from 2027 over approximately two years, although contract value and quantities are undisclosed.

IN Brief:

  • Alleima has secured a fourth-quarter 2026 order covering nuclear tubes and pipes for Sizewell C.
  • The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2026, with deliveries starting in 2027 over approximately two years.
  • The supplier has not disclosed the contract price, product quantities or precise reactor systems involved.

Alleima has secured an order for nuclear tubes and pipes for Sizewell C in Suffolk, adding a specialist manufacturing package to the two planned EPR1600 reactors. The Swedish company’s Tube division booked the order in the fourth quarter of 2026, with deliveries due to begin in 2027 and continue for approximately two years. Alleima has not disclosed the contract value, product quantities, material grades or exact systems in which the tubes and pipes will be installed.

Alleima confirmed the order on 26 October and said its products will be used in applications close to the reactors, where materials must meet stringent quality and technical requirements. No particular pipe circuit, safety classification or nuclear island subcontractor has been identified. Tubing and pipework can perform different functions in a nuclear installation, so the published description cannot establish the service pressure, temperature, geometry or duty of these particular products.

Sizewell C is planned to comprise two EPR1600 reactors on the Suffolk coast. As with other large nuclear construction programmes, the project requires both extensive civil engineering and manufacturing of specialist equipment that will ultimately be installed inside the completed structures. The order to Alleima concerns manufactured tube and pipe products rather than an award to undertake foundations, buildings or on-site pipe installation. The delivery period therefore describes a materials supply programme, not the duration of the entire power station build.

Manufacture for a specified nuclear duty involves demonstrating that materials and finished products meet the agreed requirements. Depending on the specification, this can include controls over chemical composition, dimensions, mechanical properties, surface condition and production traceability. Inspection methods are selected to match the failure modes and acceptance criteria of the individual product. Alleima has not disclosed the applicable codes, test procedures or acceptance thresholds for the Sizewell C order.

Traceability connects each accepted tube or pipe to records of its manufacture and inspection, allowing downstream fabricators or installers to establish conformity with the purchase requirements. Project procedures may also govern material identification during storage, handling and incorporation into assemblies. That sequence continues beyond the supplier’s factory: a product accepted at dispatch still needs appropriate receipt, protection and integration before the completed system can be tested for service.

The announced delivery window runs for about two years from 2027. Materials may pass through intermediate fabrication or assembly before reaching their ultimate location, but Alleima has not named its customer, the receiving facilities or the destination of individual consignments. The order therefore establishes future tube and pipe supply, rather than confirmation that material has already arrived at Sizewell C or that a specified reactor system is ready for installation.

Alleima’s wider nuclear product portfolio includes steam generator tubing, cladding tubes and materials for small modular reactor technologies. Those existing capabilities demonstrate the range of its manufacturing business but do not define the contents of the Sizewell C order. Neither a steam generator package nor fuel cladding supply has been identified in the project’s announcement, which specifies only nuclear tubes and pipes.

Alleima has supplied the nuclear sector for more than 60 years and describes this award as the beginning of a new customer relationship. Its Tube division makes advanced stainless steel and speciality alloy products for demanding industrial applications, although neither the alloys selected for this order nor the buyer has been identified. The manufacturing location and any UK-content percentage are also undisclosed, preventing a firm conclusion about where the products will be produced.

Tube and pipe manufacture will precede the planned delivery period beginning in 2027. A two-year flow of material can serve successive fabrication or assembly requirements, with documentation and receipt checks alongside transport and storage. The intended consignment sizes, delivery destinations and related installation milestones remain unspecified. Any link between the supply schedule and a particular Sizewell C construction phase would require additional project evidence.

The order sits alongside separate Sizewell C civil engineering, site infrastructure and equipment procurement programmes, each with different contracting and delivery requirements. Alleima has been appointed to supply tubes and pipes, not to construct foundations or buildings on the Suffolk site. Its next confirmed milestone is the start of deliveries in 2027, which are expected to continue for about two years. Detailed reactor applications and subsequent installation dates remain undisclosed.
