Atlas Copco expands site power with hybrid generators

Atlas Copco has introduced integrated hybrid generators for construction sites. The new range targets variable loads, lower fuel burn and tighter on-site emissions rules.

IN Brief:

  • Atlas Copco has launched three integrated hybrid generator models spanning 120 to 250 kVA.
  • Each unit combines diesel generation with 60 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery storage under one control system.
  • The range is aimed at variable-load site applications where fuel use, emissions, noise and wet-stacking risk are under growing scrutiny.

Atlas Copco has expanded its site power offer with a new integrated hybrid generator range that brings diesel generation and battery storage together in a single canopy unit.

The launch covers three models — the QHS 120 S5, QHS 200 S5 and QHS 250 T4f — giving a power band from 120 to 250 kVA. Each machine pairs an engine with a 60 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack and uses Atlas Copco’s ECOController to switch between the two power sources automatically. The company is pitching the range squarely at applications where load profiles rise and fall through the day, creating the inefficiencies that conventional diesel sets handle badly.

That matters because many site generators spend much of their time operating at low average load, which drives poor fuel efficiency, wet stacking and unnecessary maintenance. Atlas Copco says the hybrid arrangement can cut fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 80%, reduce engine run time by up to 95%, shrink footprint by 50% and lower service frequency substantially. The battery can absorb short peaks and cover low-demand periods, leaving the engine to run closer to its efficient window when it is actually needed.

The machines are also being positioned as a compliance tool as much as an equipment launch. Lower noise, fewer engine hours and better control of part-load operation all fit the direction of travel on urban sites, temporary power, rental fleets and regulated projects. Atlas Copco is taking enquiries for the new range through its QHS product page.
